Hey,

one other way of protecting you from gmail hack is to register your own domain, e.g. example.com. You can configure it to forward the emails to e.g. johan@example.com to a gmail account, not_important_emailaddress@gmail.com. If someone hacks it, you can reconfigure the forwarding to forward to another new gmail account. Your friends know your email address johan@example.com. It’s not bullit proof, ie you don’t want the hacker to read your old mail, but at least you haven’t lost your email address.

Another positive thing about owning your own domain is that when you have to enter an email-address on a site, you can say website@example.com. When later you receive spam but sent to website@example.com, then you know who sold your email-address to the spammer. For example if I enter eztechtips.com@example.com and I receive a dodgy email sent to this address, then I know I can not trust eztechtips.com

my account was hacked. I don’t have access to it, passwords were changed and I don’t know my secondary email address (probably because it was changed). I do not want to create a new account. I have all my work stuff saved onto my gmail and my contacts… I would lose everything! Can I call google directly? I keep on filling out the form and get an automated response from them saying my account did not verify their security questions to verify me.

Thank you for the great article.
I saw my IP address, and i see that my account has been hacked. I guess someone is using my gmail to send advertisement message. I have tried to changed my password for 3~4 times now, but it doesn’t work. What Can I do?
